How do I get my denture scanned?
You do not need to understand STL files or 3D printing. You simply need access to a suitable digital scanner and someone who can create the record correctly.
Three routes
Ask your own dentist
Ask whether your dental practice has an intraoral or laboratory scanner that can record your existing denture.
If they can help, ask them to keep the digital file and, if they wish to support other people locally, to register on the Dental Health Service website.
Find a participating scanner
As the network grows, the Dental Health Service directory can help the public and care homes identify dentists or suitable professionals who offer scanning.

Care-home scanning
Care homes can ask a local dentist with a scanner to visit or help arrange a scanning session for residents who depend on dentures.
The aim is simple: create the record while the denture is still available, rather than after it has disappeared.
What should be scanned?
- The existing denture should be clean and available for scanning.
- The scan needs to be suitable for the intended laboratory/manufacturing workflow.
- If the denture is uncomfortable, very worn or unsuitable, copying it may not be the best option.
- The person doing the scan should follow the appropriate professional and regulatory pathway.
